Polysubstance Addiction
Stepwell Care offers robust medical and clinical support for individuals struggling with polysubstance addiction which involves the use of 2 or more substances, often simultaneously or sequentially, leading to a pattern of dependence and addiction.
Behavioral Signs: Erratic behavior, neglecting responsibilities, social withdrawal, doctor shopping, financial problems, risky/dangerous behaviors, legal issues and more.
Physical Symptoms: Drowsiness or hyperactivity, slurred speech, impaired coordination, weight fluctuations, poor hygiene, and/or frequent health issues.
Psychological Symptoms Anxiety, depression, mood swings, cognitive impairment such as problems with memory; concentration and decision-making, paranoia and/or psychosis.
Secrecy: Being secretive about activities, hiding drugs and/or lying about usage.
Specific Effects Combining Different Substances: Enhanced sedation such as extreme drowsiness and confusion, respiratory depression (slowed or difficulty breathing), alternative between high energy and sedation, extreme agitation such as hyperactivity, anxiety and/or paranoia, cardiovascular issues such as increased heart rate, hypertension and increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
Treating polysubstance addiction involves a comprehensive approach that addresses physical, psychological, and social aspects of the disease. Stepwell Care offers flexible, personalized care for individuals struggling with all polysubstance addictions. We'll help you to develop a treatment plan tailored to fit your needs, preferences and schedule. Treatment options include:
Outpatient/Ambulatory Detox: Our nationally accredited outpatient (ambulatory) detoxification program offers access to medications and supervision to safely manage withdrawal symptoms and if necessary, a gradual tapering process on an outpatient basis.
Individual and Group Therapy: We offer both in-person and online programs that include structured therapy sessions for up to 5 days per week to support your recovery, address ongoing challenges, develop strategies to cope with triggers and high-risk situations, and more.
Types of Therapies: Certain types of behavioral therapies may be more effective than others when treating polysubstance addictions. Examples include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you recognize and change negative thought patterns and behaviors associated with polysubstance use and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) which focuses on skill-building to manage emotions, cope with stress and improve relationships. We'll help you find the right care plan and associated therapies and treatment that fit your needs.
Community Support: Upon discharge, Stepwell Care clients have access to free groups on a weekly basis, offered both online and in-person in perpetuity.
